I’ve been reflecting about this lately, especially in my work with clients. So many times, we are identified with our egos instead of our higher self – am I doing this wrong? I’m going down a rabbit hole of behaviors that aren’t serving me. I don’t know how to make decisions.
We really get lost in how to create happiness or relationship or whatever we feel we need or want from life from our egos. And looking from the outside, it can even seem like some people have all that we are looking for. But we feel left out…especially in the age of social media.
The question for me is – what brought you to today? What brought you to being born where you were born? To the family you were raised in and to the family you are in today? What brought you to the place where you reside? And to your spiritual or meditation practices?
The ego has an answer – need. Our pain. Traumas. Loneliness. Divorce. Losses. Something.
But, really….what’s driving you?
Might all that you are experiencing, good or bad, be actually coming from your higher self, not your ego? Might it be a quest to live from your purpose? To reclaim your joy, your love, your freedom, etc.?
Yes, we experience so many difficulties in life. It is not easy. I know, it can also feel impossible. I’m just trying to survive. I have so much anxiety.
We suffer because we’ve lost our way to who we truly are.
We can try to cover it up, fill our suffering with luxuries, experiences, relationships. But we continue to suffer because we’re disconnected from our real selves.
Try this exercise – Center in your full breath and body until you feel relaxed. With openness, ask yourself why are you here today?
Honestly, if you receive an answer, that’s great. But stay present in your body…even if you didn’t receive an answer, did you come into the present moment and out of ego identification even for a moment? Did you open your awareness to something bigger might be in play? Did you receive a sense of your higher self or purpose?
